Private Walter Leonard Sim
The story of this soldier killed in action at Gallipoli in 1915.
 Walter Leonard SimBy Jacquelyn Sim (Great Niece)Walter Leonard Sim was the son of James Sim and Ellen Wensley Sim (nee Richardson) of Johnsonville, New Zealand. Walter enlisted on 18th January 1915 . Walter was killed in action at Gallipoli on 8th August 1915, aged 21. He has no known grave. His name is on the Chunuk Bair memorial in Turkey. Walter's older brother Albert James Sim was killed in action on 12th October 1918 aged 38. Walter and Albert were grandsons of James and Janet Sim who arrived into Wellington, on the "Olympus" in May 1841. Walter's father (James aged 3), and three other children, arrived with them. Two more children were born in New Zealand. Walter and Albert were brothers of William Sim, Josiah Sim, Lilian Pitt, Mary Ousey, Harriett Stephens, and Herbert Sim.
