19 MR H. T. SIM.
Mr Herbert Thomas Sim, whose death at the age of 57 years occurred recently, was one of Feilding's most highly respected citizens and a man of fine character. He was born at Johnsonville and was employed by the Wellington Meat Export Co., Ngahauranga, for 20 years, afterwards being transferred to their Kakariki works. Later he accepted the position of foreman butcher with the Feilding Farmers' Freezing Co., now conducted by Messrs Thos. Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., with whom he remained up to the time of his death.
He was a keen sportsman in his younger days, and played for the Poneke, Johnsonville, and Feilding Football Clubs. He won many trophies, and in later years took an interest in the Feilding Boxing Club.
The funeral took place from the residence, Aorangi, to the Feilding Cemetery. Workers from Messrs Borthwick and Sons formed a guard of honour on the main road outside the works entrance while the cortege moved between the ranks. The services at the Anglican Church and the graveside were conducted by Ven. Archdeacon Petrie. The pallbearers at the residence and the cemetery were Messrs V. J. Stichbury, J. Garnett, G. I. Mutch, S. A. Jarrett, C. Williamson, C. H. Fry, and H. Brown, while at the church Messrs M. L. Sim, K. G. Sim, Sergt. L. T. Sim, L. D. Sim (sons), L/Cpl. E. Pearce (son-in-law), and Sergt.-Major J. T. Bell performed this office.
Besides Mr Sim's wife there are left to mourn their loss four sons, Messrs Malcolm, Kenneth and Lance, of Feilding, and Sergt. L. Sim, of Waiouru; also three daughters, Mesdames G. L. Wood (Stratford), Eric Pearce (Upper Hutt) and Miss Freda Sim (Feilding).

From "Following the death of Ann, Stephen decided to emigrate to New Zealand. Stephen departed England from the port at Gravesend on the 13th December 1839 arriving in New Zealand in August 1840 on the 'Coromandel'. Stephen's children, Susan aged 17, Stephen aged 11 and John aged 8, were also passengers.
